GGRS Meeting

April 4, 2009, Club Meeting

Lowell and Linda Dietz, Flowery Branch, GA

We want to thank Lowell and Linda Dietz for hosting the meeting. We had no meeting scheduled for March or April, and they volunteered to open their layout on short notice and get our year off to a good start. Here are a few photos by Donald Nute of their Dilapidated, Slow Poke & Poor (DSP&P). This is their Georgia layout. They also have a layout at their summer home in Colorado.

This is a fairly large layout in a beautiful woodland setting. There are not a lot of structures and the layout is clearly still a work in progress. (Aren't they all?) But the plantings and the topography make the layout very attractive. Particularly nice is all of the moss they have tansplanted to the site.

The open spaces make this layout feel huge.

Much of the track is laid on wood and then ballasted. Here we see Lowell's simple but effective method for bending the rails. Three screws and a piece of wire move and hold the points on his switches.

It's a long climb up and over the mountains. The Dietz's run both steam and diesel. The engines are battery-powered and use the AirWire System for control and Phoenix Sound Systems. Lowell is a reseller for both.
